The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Grieve not,
nor speak of me with tears,
but laugh and talk of me
as if I were beside you...
I loved you so -
'twas heaven here with you.

Rosie

You walked out of the long grasses of the field and into our hearts one summer day. It didn't take long for you to became part of our family. So sweet and calm - a great influence on the canines, grooming their faces. An early riser with your gentle meow on the pillow. Rosie, you touched our hearts in ways we never imagined. Our special little fur ball - rest in peace with your big Buddy until we meet again.

Buddy

There you were, 120 pounds of you, standing on your hind legs pleading with us to take you home.  Your kennel card read, "Returned due to baby gate not keeping dog in kitchen."

That first night at home, you whined to go outside, and what we saw in the sky was amazing. The swirl of brilliant color dancing in the night was mesmerizing. It was meant to be. We had recently lost one special soul and rescued another - our big Buddy. We never changed your name - it fit you. So gentle with everyone you met - adored by all the kids at school. While at the Grand Canyon, tourists wanted to take YOUR picture!

You taught us so much about the world of dog. We learned how to help you thru your anxiety which enabled us to help others - so thankful.

You were a buddy in so many ways - thank you Bud for picking us that day at the shelter. You are so special - we love you - see you again.

Feathers
Feathers--Although your life was cut way too short, we take comfort knowing that we were able to rescue you from the rough life of a feral colony, and that you spent your final years being safe, dry, warm, fed, and loved. "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened." -Dr. Seuss

Reuben

Reuben, our paths first crossed when we heard about a sweet rottweiler who had been tied to a dumpster at a vet clinic over an extremely hot 4th of July week-end. From the moment we met you, we knew that you were one special dog. There was no way we could turn our backs on you, especially after the traumatic ordeal you had just endured. Someone had broken your trust, but you would not let that stop you from believing that people were good and that you were worthy of being loved. Although your life was cut way too short, you were able to find someone special to adopt you and give you the life that you deserved. Our hearts were broken when we learned that you had succumbed to cancer, but we took comfort knowing that your final time on earth was spent the way it was meant to be--being spoiled and adored. You were one-of-a-kind, Reuben Clarke. It was a true honor to have been able to help you.

Jake
You were a big old dog with a gruff exterior that had spent most of his life on a chain. But inside you were really just a big baby who was afraid of storms and loud noises. You taught us to accept your quirks and embrace your beautiful spirit. You were a wonderful dog who was with us for far too short a time. We hope we made you as happy as you made us. Sweet dreams Jake. 5/31/2011
