About Iris

  • Housetrained: Yes

Iris is listed on our website as a courtesy listing for her currrent owner. Please contact her owner, Jessi, if you are interested in learning more about Iris at 715-642-2957.

Iris a beautiful, loving 5-6 year old female Great Pyrenees. We rescued her from a truck stop in Missouri about a year ago. According to them, she was living under an overpass for about 8 months, and no one could get close to her. They had built her a tarp structure to sleep in out of the weather. She was positive for heartworm, treatments were successful, and she is now heartworm negative. She has been spayed and is up-to-date on vaccines. She does well with our 2 cats. She does well with one of our female Boxers and our male Yorkie-poo. We have one female Boxer that does not like her and has been picking fights with her which is progressively getting worse. Iris does posture a little when seeing larger dogs out in public. With living out in the elements for so long Iris has some weather trauma; she does not like to be outside if it's raining, snowing heavy or if it's too hot/cold. She is scared of fireworks and doesn't like hunting season. She loves to be where her people are, inside or out. Also, with her being on her own for so long she has severe Separation Anxiety, and Iris will need a home that will work with a professional, certified dog behaviorist to help her with these issues. Iris does well as long as she knows someone is home with her. She is on medication which helps with the Separation Anxiety to some degree. She does need to have someone with her at all times at this point. She loves car rides. She does not kennel well, and being kenneled raises her anxiety level to the point where she hurts herself. She is a Pyr so she does like to roam.  She is able to open a sliding door and let herself out.  We don't know if she was ever a working dog. Not sure how she does with goats, chickens, etc. She loves to be combed, have her belly rubbed and snuggled on the couch.
